Valve Is Killing The PC Market Apparently....

I hate steam, with a passion. Its slow, sluggish, games take forever to load, there are always ridiculous updates.

It is just crap.

it's called a line upgrade :p

Steam is a bit fail sometimes. It just freezes and windows borders appears around the windows and it stops responding... :L

I've got a 4mb line and it still does crap like that. It never used to though, it's only after they gave it the facelift. But steam is an awesome tool nonetheless. :D

Bull shit, what has the load time of games got to do with line speed? Its poor programming is what it is.

That is my biggest gripe about Steam, but if it wasn't for it I wouldn't have bought nearly as many games as I did this year. I think Steam is a revelation for PC gaming. :)

ROFL. Well change it. Do it! DO IT NOW!
I actually did it last nite :)

He already has! Syco - can't take that dude anywhere.

looooooooooooooooool shurrup murph

It's called Telkom!!!

Yeh but its also our lines that play a major role...

I'm not sure technically why, but apparently EVERYTHING. I had similar problems when I was on 512k. Games would take forever "Preparing to launch...........................". When I upgraded to 4mb, Steam became gaming heaven.

IMO, PC gaming would be dead (or at least FAR worse off than it is now) if it wasn't for Steam and Valve. The amount of sales they are responsible for definitely keeps publishers and developers interested. It has also given indie developers with very tight budgets a lifeline to get their games out to the masses.

+1

NOt to mention providing an excellent platform for episodic content like Monkey Island and Sam n Max. Imagine having to buy separate episodes on CD/DVD.

Steam ... oh they get it right in every way.
Granted you need to have a decent connection and uncapped to truly appreciate it's offerings.
I have bought so many games on it: on special, pre-order, arcade small games, new releases etc. It is so convenient to buy games, to back up games, to save games AND not to mention keeping tabs of what friends are playing.
Oh, I almost forgot the auto updating. Blessing!

Get with the times! adapt! make something better and stop bitching!

Jeez... did no one pass Business Economics in high school here? Everyone's saying how amazing Steam is for PC gaming. As if PC gaming was in some sort of crisis before Steam... But, whatever, I'm not going to get in to that. This refusal to sell Steam products by retailers was inevitably brought about by Steam having a monopoly over digital distribution and that monopoly is encroaching on retail. Monopolies are bad things, remember? Telkom, Microsoft... etc. Imagine how much you'd be paying for PCs if AMD finally crumbled.

Haha, retail stores don't get it. They won't carry Steam games because they are afraid that people will rather buy the game on Steam. What do they think will happen if they don't carry the game at all?
Look at it this way: Would Pick 'n Pay sell Woolworths frikkadels?
