I changed brokers and the new brokers put me with Hollard. I think certain brokers have connections at the various companies or something. Overall I can't complain. As far as I know, with my Hollard policy, the excess is less than with Santam but that can probably be negotiated with them as well.Funny, I used to be with Hollard, but my broker got me to move to Santam (Since then moved to M&F). At the same time, the same broker got a guy who works with me to change from Santam to someone else, basically because our situations and insurance needs are different, and different insurance companies suited us better. That's the kind of thing that regular folks like us don't really understand properly.
Santam do quote better than most. Their quotes are the closest to what I'm paying now. However, I would still recommend a broker in case there are some issue and they don't want to pay out. In my case, the insurance company refused to pay out because the laptop wasn't stolen out of my home... which is kind of the reason the laptop was insured since it is always mobile and the chances of being stolen anywhere else is much higher than at my home.you dont have to go through a broker with Santam. you can contact them direct. i find its even cheaper than going through a broker. i just changed my insurance today for my new car (2012 1.2 Rio) and for a full comprehensive insurance including car hire and that shortfall cover im paying R643.02... for a brand new car. everywhere else i got quote over R750...
+1Outsurance, MiWay, etc. are all a scam, and Hippo is apparently owned by the same company so steer clear of their recommendations.
Get yourself a broker and behold the vast savings and lack of bullshit they'll bestow upon you. (Personally I recommend Alexander Forbes, best rate I could find and exceptional service.)
What car is it? I know sometimes they refuse custom performance cars or cars that have been rebuilt where the engine and chassis number don't match. So here we come to the verdict, after talking to a hell of a lot of companies and brokers the verdict is this:
They refuse to insure my car.
So no insurance for me.
