Well when I had blood tests there was no pain at all but its still the thought of it so must be different when you donate then or have an injection.

Do they use different needles to the blood test ones?

Yes they use different ones. For bloodtests they use 22 or 23 gauge but for blood donations they use 16 or 14 gauge (the smaller the bigger). Injections is also 22 or 23 gauge, but that can be more painful depending on what is injected and how much.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure of the size of donation needles, but it's definitely bigger.

Oh ok rather stick to blood tests then unless I am unconcious :D.

I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so either.
All depends on the type of injection, I'd assume.

That initial prick isn't easy to ignore. I think the shock of the penetration adds to the pain making it feel a lot more intense than it actually is.

I guess its probably in the mind cause I can accidently cut my finger with a knife or paper with no pain so should be the same with a needle.
 
There are, however, those times when you've hurt yourself and you don't realise it until much later.
That pain I don't feel. But, pain I know is there - I feel.
 
It's been a long time since my last donation but I have given about 80 pints or thereabouts.

I need to get myself signed up for organ donor thingy... if they'll take what's left of me then :)
 
I feed the vampires exactly every 2 months. they come park a bus/caravan here at our offices
 
I used to be a devoted donor, however since the incident that i encountered with the blood service i have never given them another drop.
 
gave blood once, nearly passed out

Apparently my low blood pressure and giving blood dont work well together
 
Basically one of the test tube's that they full after the bag ( i gather for testing purposes? ) was broken, and the Nurse only noticed this after my blood started filling the silver tray up. I didnt feel so good after that encounter.

I dont doubt the blood service do a good thing keeping our blood supplies up, but the wont be getting it from me after that.
 
I'm a donor. Haven't given for the last while though because of medications that I was on, I wasn't allowed.

If the nurse is good, putting the needle in hardly hurts at all, and taking it out isn't a problem. I did have one bad incident though when the nurse was pulling the needle out, she pressed down on the little cotton wool ball while she was pulling the needle out instead of after it was out, and that hurt and left a big bruise.

Other times I've been have been fine though
 
I haven't ever donated blood, not willingly anyway. If I got paid for doing it, then it would be a different story. But then it wouldn't be donating. :)

I've had blood tests before and those were fine, but the other day I had a bought of the flu and needed a test to tell me that I had the flu -- something which I all ready knew. I just wanted him to write me a prescription and send me on my merry way. Anyway, the doctor struggled to find a vein. I would compare it to a blindfolded person playing a game of pin the tail on the donkey. It was uncomfortable to say the least.

I don't like needles too much, but not to the point where I would jump out of a ten story building to avoid one.
