Voicy's Epic WoW starter guide

Nice one Voicy.

Just reading that, (well the first 2 posts) almost makes me want to start playing again again.

I heard that when you play as a hordie you start to smell funny, is that true?

Good guide so far, even though the info is a bit scarce. I assume you are still updating it?

You missed one of the server types, Normal RP (or RP PvE).

You can also mention that DPS is divided into Melee DPS (rogues, cat druids) and Ranged DPS (mages, warlocks). It's not really a mistake, but good to know for a new player, since the playstyles are different for each type. And some people get offended when you group it together.

Updated - thanks mate!

*Urge to play WoW Rising*

Nice writeup - what's the min. line speed you should have in SA to get a decent experience?

On another note... How the hell does wowmatrix work?

Start up wowmatrix. It will then get an update (not sure what for), check for updates on your installed add-ons, and then get a list of available add-ons. Just go to the add-ons tab, search for the one you want, and click install. It will automatically download, install and enable the selected update.

When updating already installed add-ons, just select 'Update All' or select the add-on and select 'Update'.

On another note, I find Curse Updater to work just as well as wowmatrix. It also uploads your character data to your Curse profile etc. All in all it's more handy in my opinion.

I used to play on Trooper's wireless. Latency was terrible. Then I got myself a 384 line last month and I haven't lagged out once - even in a 40man raid.

I spose. So unshaped accounts then?

I'm running an Axxess semi-shaped account which, as everyone knows, is pretty much unshaped after hours and works perfectly.

With amount of accounts being stolen lately I do not like any "phishy" software on my pc. I ESPECIALLY don't like the fact that it's running in the background while WoW is open.

WoWMatrix is slow, but I launch it once a week - do all the updates - close it again. It also has more refined addons on it's list. Curse has a massive database, which has a whole range of utter useless and BADLY written addons on it.

My personal experience with Curse caused my copy of WoW to go corrupt after 6 months of no issues with wowmatrix.

That's just my personal experience with it. Hopefully the problem was on my pc only.

Aah ok - that's maybe the way to go. Does anyone in our wonderful town sell it for a reasonable price? Wouldn't mind giving it a go. It's not like I need a life.

I have no issues using Curse software, as they are just about the largest WoW add-on site.

Getting yourself hooked up with WoW shouldn't be too hard. You can buy the games fairly cheaply from take2.co.za / calamari.net / CNA / whatnot... the patches will be another story though... best bet would be to get someone's updated WoW folder and just do a straight copy over onto your pooter...works like a charm.

2 ways of paying - either C/C or you can get gamer cards. So far AcidRaz0r on here offers the best prices on gamer cards, so give him a buzz.
