Voicy's Epic WoW starter guide

I usually get about 600ms latency on average with Vodacom 3G. Sometimes it drops to about 400 and at other times it can go over a 1000. It does get noticeable when above 1000 but it's still playable. When it gets to 2000 then it becomes difficult.

I had some disconnects on Naxx25 last night during the Sapphiron fight. I also had my settings on full (except shadow detail, that eats a lot of frames), so that might have contributed.

You can also disable unnecessary add-ons during raiding, especially those that communicate between players, like gatherer and gearscore.

There was a known issue in Naxx runs and even people on perfect lines would get DC'd and not be able to reconnect. Blizzard even released a statement on it.

I used to have no issues with any bosses, but as soon as the Grobbulus fight starts I would religiously get DC'd until the fight is over.

I thought it might be that. On the one attempt, both me and another hunter dc'ed right as the fight started. The dps was still moving to engage. After I reconnected, I was dead. I did have a point in the last (and finally successful :o) attempt with severe (3000+) lag, that killed me and only dc'ed me about 2 minutes after that.

For those of you confused by my hateful thread bump. We had a goldseller bump this thread, so I politely told her to go away. :)
No problems guy, didn't think much of it, you do get fits like these, not often anymore, but still... ;)

ok, so I got the game, and created an account.

when I connect it goes "handshaking", downloads a few kilobytes, then exits and downloads a "world of warcraft installer". The installer then downloads what seems to be the entire game, because it has a big button that says "Install world of warcraft", and It tries to download 2.5gb.

I`m using 3G

Does anyone here live near hartbeespoort?

Check your version of WoW, if it doesn't read "v3.3.0 (11159) Dec 9 2009" then it'll attempt to download a rather large patch before you're able to play.

Its version 2.0.0.6080 so I guess its rather old. the http download patches I can find are all from version 3 onwards.
Think maybe i`ll just use my dad`s stockpiled iburst bandwidth over the weekend.

If it doesnt work i`ll pay someone here to send me the files.

I downloaded and updated my wow a week ago, it was about 5 gig download in total. Try get it from a friend or fellow forum member here, its a big headache to update from so far back.

The update installer did the same thing with me, for some reason it wants to download the entire client even thought there was only about a gigs worth of updates left

Sorry for the epic bump, I was just reading over this archaic thread again and noticed Pyro's sig. He came to this thread as a n00b and his sig shows he already has 3 lvl 80s! Nice going duder! Glad to see it helped even 1 person...

Hehe thanks Voicy, it did help a lot in the beginning! I currently have 2 85's, my Pala on 83 and I am levelling a Lock for Scribollogy. We are 12/12 Norm so far in raiding, with Halfus HC down as well...
