What are you playing right now?

I get what you're saying and I agree to an extent, but I kinda also see why ubi does it. They way I see it is that you are accessing someone's memory through technology and the only way to get 100% sync is to do exactly what they did originally, i.e. complete the mission in the exact same way that it "actually happened".

That makes sense, but I'm probably in the minority when I say that AC would be a better series if they hadn't included all the Animus stuff, and just had a series of "disconnected" games àla Far Cry. In the beginning it was really interesting. But especially in AC3, it was starting to bog down the game. I'm glad that the parts outside the Animus are rather good in Black Flag, but I still want to be able to play as Edward, not some random bloke who's reliving his memories.

It's only going to become more difficult to make the modern day sections good; resources which would be better put to use at making the rest of the game good. Many reviews that I've read have said that ACIV is a better pirate game then it is an assassin's game, and there's a reason for that.

I've heard a lot of people say that they don't like the Animus stuff but I love it, I really enjoyed (most of) Desmond's story and the modern day parts in AC IV are pretty cool so far. I like the fact that ubi didn't just decide to make period games and link them with an overarching storyline, but also added a connection to modern times. It can get a bit silly at times, but I don't think the games would be the same without them.

IMO AC IV strikes a perfect balance between pirate game and assassin game. Sailing the open seas and plundering ships is a lot of fun, but so is freerunning around the world and assassinating people.

How does it compare to Arkham City? What are the disappointments? Where does it shine?

Arkham City was a very different game to the new one.
The combat is still top notch, really enjoying it, but graphically nothing has changed, they should have used the Glacier 2 engine or Frostbite 3 engine. I know graphics don't make a game better but lets put it this way, my calculator can max the new Batman and it still doesn't look good. There are also a TON of QTE, I am 15% in and I can't even remember the amount of QTE, the boss battles also contain quite a few..really annoying.

Then the missions...Go to this way point, do this, then this...It gets repetitive within the 1st 2 hours of play.
Then there are these extra little side quests/missions/events that are all the same...as in exactly...
The game lacks a good story, it also lacks feel and depth...Its very hard to put into words but this game is no where near as good as the previous one, not even close.

Finished Assassin's Creed III - will likely give my spoiler-free review a soon as I'm able.

Starting Batman: Arkham City.

Looking forward to it.

I'm playing Mass Effect 3 but since I'm obsessive, it takes me a while to get things done.
Speaking of OCD, I bought "Papers, Please" on GOG today (40% off, iirc) and just clocked my first hour gameplay. I love it. They graphics and sound is so apt for the era in which it plays out. The game play is very unique and very repetitive but not dull at all, which I feared it could be when I first read the synopsis of the game.
In short, you work at a border post in the 80s. You need to check the documents of applicants that wish to enter the country and at the end of the day decide how you will spend your money. It's usually heat, medicine or food for your family but rarely all three. Lots of tough choices in your job and private life. Not for everyone, so think carefully before you buy.

So didn't have too much time for games, but I did start playing Dishonoured and Fallout 3. Haven't played either of them, and I must say the little bit I played, I enjoyed a lot.

I'm finally playing Torchlight. While I am already getting bored with it, I will say that a lot of the niggles I had with Diablo II aren't here...

I finished LA Noire last night. Pretty cool game. One or two last achievements that I am hunting, before I move on to either Borderlands 2, Uncharted 3, Metal Gear Rising or Killzone 2.

Battlefield 4
Saints Row IV
Dota 2

Haven't touched Batman again...Might give it a try again when business slows down.

Just got GTA V and BF4, and from PSN I have Remember Me and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

I'm having a what to play crisis

Just started playing BF4 (Gawds I suck at shooter games). Finished downloading startopia over lunch (Good times ahead) and I am still playing Final Fantasy XIV.

Finally started with Saints Row IV. It is different... I think the intro of SR3 was one of the best intro's to a game yet so that was hard to beat, but as for the rest of the game, it feels like the cars isn't such a big factor as before... mainly cause it ain't needed anymore.

Nonetheless, the game is very different and still entertaining... Kinda like a Matrix meets Prototype... Will try to finish it this coming weekend although I have no idea where they'll go for SR5.
