What Motherboard & Proccessor ?

So im looking to upgrade my Motherboard & Proccessor... Wish i had alot to play with my Budgets round R2500
Looking at

-- AMD® Phenom™II X6-1055T 2.80GHz Six Core, --> +- R1650
-- MSi AMD 870A-G54--> +- R858

Anyone have better options for this ?

those choices are not bad at all

infact i own an 1055T myself and am very satisfied.

howeverr i dont see any provision for RAM, i presume you have DDR3 RAM already?
 
I have Ram and graphics card already and hard drivesssss... Been meaning to upgrade my motherboard and Proccessor for a while but confused what to get. I7 Seems really expensive

Its subject to much debate

but in a nutshell Intel have always been "one-up" on AMD and as you can see an i5 2500k is on par and better than the 1055T is some aspect

BUT and i mean BUT

the price point of the AMD 6 core processor was never meant to take on the i7 on any level, its price point is very attractive.

Highly threaded apps will see more benefit with an X6 but currently not many apps use 6 cores, they simply "juggle" all 6 cores, making the X6 somewhat redundant BUT again as more apps become highly threaded, the X6 will shine through.

IMO go with the X6, you will not be dissapointed. IF you have excellent CPU cooling you'll easily push that 6 core to 4 GHz
 
Yeah I would rather go i5 if I were you. Just as a matter of interest sake there is a guy with a Hex AMD setup and it measures lower 7 on the windows 7 rating. My i5 is 7.4
Check Tom's Hardware for a benchmark analysis. They are pretty good and show value / price comparison

my 1055T stock hits 7.4, ocing brings it up to 7.8
 
Dam im getting confused as what to go for nw they both very tempting nw.
I use it for online gaming on Steam and Photoshop nw and then.

Had AMD for along time so was thinking upgrade to AMD again...

But my Laptop is a i5

Shit, must have been yours that I saw. What I was thinking is that the price is a couple hundred higher between yours and mine. So to go for the 1055T compared to i5 2500k, hmm tough.
Also the problem comes in between the upcoming Ivy Bridge vs Bulldozer?
 
Rather go for Bulldozer, buy a AM3+ motherboard and put a X4/6 in it and sell it when Bulldozer arrives, that makes more sense to me :)

Every time Intel has a new CPU it means a new Motherboard is needed.
 
^^Agreed with above, rather go for an AM3+ M/Board now if you going AMD. The performance on Bulldozer is looking relatively good.

OR just wait for the Bulldozer/ Next-Intel CPU's to be launched, now is not the best time to buy a new CPU....

One of the great things about the AM sockets in general

and AM3 CPU will work in an AM2+ socket, thats pretty nifty, you dont see intel doing this.

Again, AMD are clever, they are more interested in having a good price and selling as much as they can, Intel are more interested in saying "Hey there is no doubt we are better than AMD" which in truth, their products are, but then i ask you, how is AMD being able to compete, it answers itself really :)

It depends on what exactly your looking for? the prices vary....
 
Another thing to remember is the 1055t runs at 6 threads while I'm pretty sure the new i5 range also runs 8 threads like the new i7 2600k range. Go read up a bit on that. It makes quite a significant difference in performance. Just my 5c :D

Yep, i3 and i7 are hyper threaded. i5's aren't. Don't quite know why they do it that way but thats just the way they chose, money sucking a... holes lol.

Just do a lot of research though, I was even told that the middle range motherboards supporting intel are better then the motherboards of middle range amd's.
I don't know how much that would influence your opinion in choosing brand but it made me go from AMD to Intel. I had a budget of 3g's and was advised to rather go Intel because of the motherboards being better in my price bracket

to put it into context i'll use a simile here:

imagine Intel being a German brand car, German brands are well know for

Quality
Performance
Comfort
Excellent designing in General

Now AMD being the Japanese brand are know for

Quality
Ok Performance
Reliability (not as of late tho)
Still good quality
Excellent pricing
not always the best looking cars but they get the job done.

Such is the differences between the two

No doubt intel are better by many aspects but they do indeed lack in competitive pricing IMO

AMD realize not everyone can afford the newest i7 but there are tho who would still like a 6 core CPU the perfroms hence them coming out with the X6, they themselves are not aiming to take down the 6 core i7, infact their aim is quite different

Give good quality, adequate performance at an excellent price point.
