All this talk about offence and what each person finds offensive reminded me of news story many years ago. It was before the time of the internet so I don't have a link (I think it was about 1993 or there abouts). I'm not going to give my own opinion on it, just tell it as I remember and let each person make up their own mind.
A Native American (who we call American Indians her in SA) visited South Africa and ended up in a Spur restaurant. The toilets were marked "Chiefs" and "Squaws". He pointed out to the manager that "Squaw" is a derogatory and racist term for an woman in their culture. The manager apologized and changed the signs. I don't recall clearly, but I think a number of Spurs followed this example while others didn't bother.
What do you think: If you were a manager in a Spur at that time, would you have changed your signs even though the incident didn't happen in your restaurant?
