Why?

So this is not a discussion about any thing in particular. I want to know, why do you play games?

For me, gaming is my biggest passion, it's more than just a time killer or a simple hobbie. Theres very little I like doing more than playing a great game. Thats why for me the "casual gamer" is something that needs to be destroyed.

I grew up with games. My Dad was an oldschool Programmer. I was playing stuff he made and played on the Sinclair ZX spectrum off HiFi Tapes when I was still a todler.

I've allways been in a PC environment and my dad was a gamer aswell so we had everything back then, including consoles. Atari 2600, Atari jaguar, Super Nintendo, Golden China Nintendo, Ending Man Nintendo etc etc.......

I got my first PC in my room when my father upgraded from his 386 to a 486, played lekker Floppy games (not stiffie) before I went to primary school in the morning hehe.

So it's just allways been with me. My dad still plays games though, which is kinda awesome.

I been playing games all my life(really all my life) I find tv so boring. I been playing for so long since the nes I just cant think of life with out my games.

Same here. I've been gaming since before I can remember, the earliest I can remeber I was playing the original Prince of Persia (witch is why I'm so attached to the newer games), and allways begging for cash at any arcade mashine I came across. My 1st own PC I got when I was seven, playing games like diablo, starcraft, red alert, GTA, x-com, etc. All thanks to my older brother really. I owe him alot.

My oldest games I can remember are as follows:
Paper boy
Wonder boy
Contra
Mortal kombat 1

Damn Younglings.

I remember Going out and Buying Doom from a computer store, it came in a box of stiffies.

Playing Wolfenstein 3d back in primary school and hooked since then, much to the dismay of my parents :P. i love gaming.

I Blame Duke Nukem 3D & Riot. Got me hooked and ive just never looked back. Gaming is a way of life. Like Raven said few things beat playing a really awesome game.

I used to game A LOT more than what I do now, but I honestly do love it! Although now the wife takes up much of my time I still treasure playing games atleast 2/3 hours a day!

One of the many issues with being an adult. I feel your pain brother, i have the same problem and im not even married yet. Between work, my fiance and other things i get about 3 to 4 hours a day it, maybe.

Cool topic..... Well since i was 9yrs my mom bought my brother and i our first PC it was a Pentium 166mhz with something liek 6mb of ram or something like that and it had a floppy drive :p i had a few games 3 of which i remember Battle Chess, Gorillas, Stunts (the old racing car stunt machine) and I was told if I learned how to pull a machine apart and put it back together i would get a brand new computer for my bday sure enough i pulled that old pentium apart and put it back together...

and then got stuck into some real gaming :D :p Commander Keen, Grand Prix 2, Formula 1 series, Monster truck madness and obviously built up to Unreal, Unreal tournament, quake etc... and I loved games ever since playing that first one gorillas :) *SIGH* good times... oh and that also goes to show im willing to try any game that comes my way...

Since I was a lil tot I played games on our home pc.Prince of persia,Pacman,Commander Keen,Wolf,The Simpsons,Indiana Jones hehe.Didnt really care if the game sucked cause I was a kid.Remember deleting DOS somehow playing in the command prompt.Sure some of you did that too hehe my dad wanted to kill me.Also spent my days with the NES and PS1 during school holidays. Then PS2 and now 360.Can remember being restricted and only playing at certain times and exams everything got locked up haha.I have always been into both pc's and consoles.Best of both worlds.;)

I began my gaming on a friend's sinclair and then my dad bought me an atari, which by the way still works! I still remember my pocketmoney going into the arcade machine at my nearest cafe.

In high school a friend of mine got his first pc and then i was hooked. At my old age of 37, i have a monster pc, 2 x xboxes and still play everyday.

Monty?Hmmm.I think I remember playing that as well.

started on an XT.. later upgraded to a 386. The skeletons were going so fast it was just a blur.

ah such a long time ago this...

1988, my dad got me my first 'console' a ZX Spectrum+2. Year later go the ZX Spectrum +3. Was all pretty awesome games :D

Had my fair share of Amiga,Atari,NES,SNES,Saturn, Genesis, Game Gear, Pico, Sega CD, 32XSystem,Dreamcast,N64,PS One,PS2,X-360 and currently a PS3

Computer Systems
IBM 286,386,486DX-100(woop!),P1,P2,P3 and P4(every variation of said series and how fail A-Slot really was lolz)
Had the bad experience of owning a Cyrix at one stage......
Supporting AMD atm and not looking back

Games?
Well too many really to name them all here lol
Standouts that got me hooked
Commander Keen,Wolfenstein,Doom,Heretic,Hexen,Duke Nukem,Descent,Space Quest,King's Quest...

Rest is pretty much history :D

ZX Spectrum here too. Manic miner on tape drive!

I couldn't even read back than, so looking back I see that is an Air meter - I just remember I needed to finish the time before it ran out

And then another addictive game was excitebike - you could create your own tracks, so it was awesome!

Games made me learn how to do the restore function on pkzip! (darn corrupted disks)

ZX Spectrum, 386, P1 (75MHz), 200Mhz, P2 350Mhz, AMD ~900MHz - started to buy myself: P4 3.2Ghz, Core2 E8600.

Nintendo (NES), Sega Genesis (for a very short time), Playstation 2 - gave up on consoles after that, far to expensive!
