win7 clean install, can't find directx (9)

I'm not sure how the direct x install process works but installing older versions over new versions is usually a bad idea. I'd run the web setup.

and what do you think is the dx redistribution ? its the same binaries the websetup would normally download...

...as quite a few has pointed out here its normal, why i said if you want to test it go fresh install + sound + vga and try to run a dx 9 game.

What I meant was if you already had dx 10/11 installed, why revert some files to dx 9? Using an older package could do this.

The files don't revert back to the older ones. The dx setup just adds the missing dx9 files, it doesn't overwrite newer files.:)

Even so, it's still a bad idea. For the same reason it's a bad idea to install the latest nvidia drivers and then install nvidia drivers from a year ago without removing old drivers.

Strange, I'd say that not being able to play the games you spent a few hundred bucks on due to irrational fears (read: paranoia) would be a bad a idea. Opinions seem to differ :)

As Stefan9 said, it just adds the missing DX9 files, it doesn't overwrite, remove, corrupt, damage, obliterate, destroy, antagonise, bastardise, abuse, erode, endanger or threaten DX10 files or DX10-run games in any way, shape or form obvious or detrimental to the end-user. I can confirm that in the last however many months I've been using Win7 after using the DirectX Web Setup, I've had no issues whatsoever, be it in-game or out.

Whether there are people who have had issues, I can't say. The only 100% sure-fire way to be certain if problems will arise for you, specifically, is to try it and see, or, alternatively, treat your PC as though it's a volatile mix of chemicals waiting to explode at an inopportune mouse click and, obviously, either stick to an older version of Windows or simply don't play any games that won't work without it.

*shrug* The choice is inevitably yours and yours alone.

great, but remember you must fresh install win7 and only your sound + display drivers :).

Okay i got your problem, but not with an older game more with a newer demo, uhm Batman: Arkam Asylam didnt want to work until i updatemy Dx9 suite... Weird.

He's not. DirectX prefixs its files with the version, eg. "dx9d3d.dll" or similar to that. So technically, all your doing is installing missing files, not installing "over" anything.

Yup. Directx uses only dll files. one for every type that it processes.
even if it overwrites, its the exact same file, just depends on whats new.
Lets say prototype was developed using latest 78d3dx9.dll < You have to use that dll to run the game properly. That is why u should download the new directx packages :) same Dx9c. but just a lot bigger every month.
