Windows 7 PC Restarting Itself Randomly.

OmegaFenix

The Legendary Troll Hunter
Hi Guyz. My Windows 7 pc is restarting itself at random intervals, last night while playing stalker it just died and afterwards when doing a system wide scan to check for viruses it did it again. Any Ideas?

Might be PSU. Check the event log for error codes. Have you changed any hardware recently? I had a 4870x2 that refused to play along with my abit p43 motherboard and randomly crashed too, and that left error codes in the event log.

Omega, there is nothing wrong with your hardware. However, you might want to buy a legitimate copy of Win7. :D

The evaluation period ended on 28 February 2010. From thereon your PC will restart without warning every 2 hrs or so.

From Microsoft's site:

Guidelines on usage:

  • Protect your PC and data. Be sure to back up your data and please don’t test Windows 7 on your primary home or business PC.
  • You have 10 days to activate the product. If not activated within 10 days, the system will shut down once every hour until activated. Unsure on how to activate? Visit our FAQ.
  • The 90-day Trial is the full working version of the Windows 7 Enterprise, the version most of you will be working with in your corporate environment. It will not require a product key (it is embedded with the download).
  • The 90-day Trial will shut down once every hour when you have reached the end of the 90-day evaluation period.
  • The 90-day Trial is offered for a limited time and in limited quantity. The download will be available through March 31, 2010, while supplies last.
  • After the 90-day Trial expires, if you wish to continue to use Windows 7 Enterprise, please note that you will be required to purchase and perform a clean installation of Windows 7, including drivers and applications. Please keep this in mind; Windows 7 Enterprise is not available through retail channels.
  • Technical details/updates/questions: Please review our FAQ or visit the Windows 7 support forum.
  • Stay informed. You can keep up with general technical information and news by following the Springboard Series blog. Want technical guidance, tips, and tools? Visit the Springboard Series on TechNet.
  • Keep your PC updated: Be sure to turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case we publish updates for the 90-day Trial.
  • Microsoft Partners-: Learn more about Windows 7 on the Microsoft Partner Portal.

Win7 Pro will be the best option to purchase methinks ... also, you might want to look at an OEM version pre-installed on a hard drive for quite cheap (and you score a drive).

Check your RAM, RAM can be the reason for system just restarting. Make sure your bios settings is correct, memory timings etc.If you overclocked that can be the reason as well...unstable OC perhaps.

Uhm. Dre...talk about making a mountain of a mole heap. Geesh. It's his BETA copy of Windows 7. It's supposed to restart randomly.

First make sure the graphics card is working correctly by plugging it in to another machine if possible, or by putting a different card in your machnine and see if the problem persists.

What PSU do you own? Maybe the supply is being overloaded.
Go BIOS and check voltages & temeratures. The voltage should be consistent and not fluctuate over 0.5-1volt, give or take.
It could also be that one of your motherboards capacitors is faulty, in which case you need a new motherboard :/

Forget what I said, if you dont have Legit Windows 7, thats probably it. XP all the wayyyy :))

Hehe, shame man, I don't think he saw my post by the time he submitted his. Don't larch the poor oke. :D

Just like armthedark here, often folks read the first post and reply to it without going through the rest of the replies first. I'm guilty of this as well at times.

Was going to say mine does the same lol :(

So i guess will just have to download another version :P

Downloading a new version won't help you. All BETA & Evaluation versions' functionality ended on the first of March.

Like I mentioned:

Thing is guyz, this isnt a beta. Yes its not a legit copy, but its beta either.

BTW have you seen what the Ultimate edition goes for? that will take me 3 months to save up for.

R1,200 for the Retail edition of Win7 Home Premium really isn't that much to ask. You can even get it cheaper if you get an OEM version with a limited number of activations. When you think that R300 is the average price for a game, then R1200 is not too much to ask for your Operating System.

I agree and Win7 is the one OS i would actually spend that kinda money one. Oh well. Ill just save up and get it, until then PC will work in 2 hour sprints.
