The random winner comps were better imho.
Its still random but with only 25 people in the draw instead of 200 so increases the chance to win thats if you qualify.

And judging by all of the high-fiving and patting on backs between users that's going on (posting to agree with someone and simply repeating what they've said in order to give one's post bulk), the top25 might not even have contributed much by way of dynamic conversation.
Still, at least it generates *some* activity.
To the comp admins, will there be an intensive review done of the top25's posts to ensure the aforementioned example's posts carry less/no weight? Or shall I begin going about posting a quoting reply to every post that ever interacts with mine in an agreeing fashion, with a bit of text added so I'm not posting a one-liner, the way many users are doing?

I'm not so sure, looking at the top 25 so far and they don't to appear to be any of the guys I'm worried about posting lame comments. Just looking at the top 5 paints a decent picture of whats happening.
A lot of people type like that on forums so its nothing new at all in mygaming or even mybb and quoting specifies what post I am replying to instead of typing @name.
How do you have 303 points. I'm not even angry, I'm impressed -.-
Granted we all had our lame comments but generally its been in convo through the forums and not spam like people have been predicting, surw maybe excessive but mostly on a relevant side. Check Missileitoe he hasn't been making stupid comments like others first timers trying to ramp up their count.
True. You stand a greater chance of winning with this kind of competition. Given you post as if it's a chatroom![]()
I'm not saying the 'current' top25 are problematic, though with exaggerated self-patting-on-back going on the lead they would otherwise have for the activity of those in the top25 'by default' is only exacerbated. All I'm looking for is some quality control from the admins that will go over the top25 in the end to ensure the scores are normalized to account for such self-congratulating/agreeing.
Ichigo, I obviously don't use this forum much so I wouldn't know if the behaviour I'm referring to is 'normal' of the users concerned, but it's not a behaviour I see on the MyBB forums except when users want to ramp up their activity for a competition that has an activity requirement. I'm talking people that are usually fairly quiet that can't think of anything better to fill up a post quota for than to quote a post, say something along the lines of "yeah, I agree, and yams are also quite tasty imo". A post like that has no substance. They could as easily have given rep to a poster for saying something they agree with or a post that they appreciated (where rep given and received contributes towards *this* competition's scoring, but not a simple post quota requirement competition).

Just because some teachers and the calculator says 'cannot divide by zero', divide by zero.

very true spamming to win something. i dont know how i feel about that i read all posts but most times i dont post due to the topic at hand :/ guess the only way is to spam
Hey James has this got anything to do with generating more ad revenue? why exactly did this happen anyway?
We wanted a cool system that promotes forum activity. That is why we now have achievements and awards and stuff. I want to tweak that a bit more when I have time. The activity system allows us to run competitions based on forum activity. Forums are fun and happy places when they are active, and isn't it cool that the most active people stand a chance to win a prize as well? We can also build different types of awards in future, which I'm putting some thought toward.
Of course MyGaming operates entirely on ad revenue and so we will always want to increase our traffic - that's just how online works. It's a great job and a privilege to bring the MyGaming readers news and foster a cool community, but we still need to put food on the table and pay our rent as well.
With MyGaming doing well we can organise more cool stuff for the forum community like competitions with prizes that MyGaming pays for, organise events like the ongoing Dota 2 tournaments, and expand our news content and coverage.
There's no exact reason why the changes have been implemented, just that we are always striving to improve where we can. We do tend to think decisions through and things aren't done arbitrarily.
