AMD was pretty awesome up and until the hammer. Then I just went over to Intel and haven't looked back at all. However I wanted to try AMD again with 4850 and what a mistake. The card had a defect right out of factory (powerplay bug) which in the end was fixed by upgrading to a BFG 260 maxxcore 55. Sadly they stopped making GPUs :mad:
 
1st things 1st..I am a huge AMD fan, always have been and always will be.

I recently got myself a top spec trinity notebook and the value for money is astounding, nothing in the intel stable comes close in the price range..In fact the Intel laptop that came closest to the spec of the trinity machine was almost R3000 more expensive.
That said, I feel like AMD have kinda dropped the ball on the Desktop cpu market. I know with Bulldozer they tried to go a different direction and they ended up losing more single core performance, Its ok I understand that they wanted to try something else and it didn't work out as well, and although many many people still bought/buy the FX range I still feel they are overpriced for what they offer. Yes a Current gen AMD setup is almost always cheaper than a Current gen Intel setup, but that's mainly due to motherboards being a much better priced than the intel counterparts. So that's def something that needs to be looked at.

Also I feel AMD SA doesn't come to the party like Intel does, I never ever see AMD advertising anything and I never see any of my suppliers advertising AMD products yet there are 100's of intel logo's ect all over the shop and offices. Most people don't ever bother looking at benchmarks, they buy what is being advertised..and right now Intel is being punted like crazy where AMD is lagging behind.

That said...AMD GPU's are OMFG awesome value for money. Right now Nvidia doesn't have a single card in the lower section of the market where as amd have a whole host of cards, which means they are completely dominating that section of the market. Then there is also the fact that for the 1st time in almost 6 years AMD and Nvidia are within 3% of each other in the Top Tier graphics department. The GTX680 and AMD HD7970 are unbelievably closely matched and that is an absolutely amazing feat considering the performance jump AMD has made from the 6xxx series to the 7xxx.

I've always liked AMD pc components when I made my gaming desktop PC since it was the best at the time and I see they make some nice CPU's and GPU's still
 
Running an AMD Phenom X3 720 Black Edition for about 3 years now and it is still an absolute beast!
Upgraded to a AMD HD6850 about 6 months back and I feel that I won't have to upgrade for quite a few years to come again.

As a computer store retail consultant, I do try to convert the Intel guys over to AMD whenever I see an opportunity, I feel there is better value for money on the AMD side of things, especially on the graphics cards.
 
I'm a huge fan of AMD cards which started way back when I first bought my 4670. I currently run a 6870 which allows me to enjoy the newest games :). As soon as I get another small stash I can buy a newer spec card, hopefully a 7970.
 
AMD will always have a special place in my heart. In 2009 I was able to build a decent system and my Phenom 2 has lasted well but the best AMD piece of hardware I own is my HD5870. It still impresses me to this day and in my opinion is one of the best GPU's ever made.
 
I've been running a ATI/AMD GPU for a couple of years now & am happy with it. I'll probably buy another one in a month or two. The weak linux support has me a bit worried though.

CPU side...well I can only hope AMD pulls its socks up...not keen on a market dominated by one player.
 
Big AMD fanboy here as well!! :love: Never owned an Intel mobo or chip in my life. Even with my most recent upgrade (last year), I chose the 1090T CPU with a 890FXA mobo (this was just before the release of the Bulldozer CPU's) and even though I knew that the I5 2500K (which were/are similarly priced) outperformed it, I still went with AMD >> loyalty won vs logic in this case.

I was a bit upset with the performance of the Bulldozer CPU's when they launched, and do understand that this was a new built from the ground up, but with the performance difference vs the Sandy Bridge it was an epic fail imo, but perhaps a great leap to new success in the long run. Guess we'll see.

I ran a crossfire setup with 2X6*** GPU's until recently and must compliment on the effectiveness of this as I've had no issues or driver issues whatsoever and the performance was really there. This was quite a leap vs a few years back. In the GPU range the new 7000 series is superb and the is really good value for money and a true competitor for the Nvidia counterpart.

As someone mentioned above, I wish to see more AMD awareness, branding, advertising, marketing etc as the AMD brand is really not seen enough.

I am looking forward to see how the new range of AMD CPU's perform!!
 
I am a huge AMD CPU fan, will not deny that all my rigs from my very first 1000mhz Thunderbird to my current Phenom II X4 965 and to my future FX8350 (when released) will be AMD.

The reason I choose AMD products or atleast CPU is that they offer very good value at thier price points, and to build a top tier system with thier parts is not that expensive. They have everything I need for my everyday use, and more if required. I did stay away from the previously released FX series as it got bad reviews, and I thought I rather wait it out for the 2nd generation chipsets, but despite that I have been loyal to the brand since I can remember starting to use them.

The only issue I did or do have is in the GPU market, I am aware that AMD have really good cards, but they always seem to crash my system and I have tried every range (not product) to see if this issue has been resolved. It seems even though I use AMD CPUs the GPU dont play well with my system. I could be doing something wrong, but that is what happens to me. I even tried multiple drivers new, old or beta. Can't seem to make it work.

Other than that little glitch, my AMD system is my baby, and I love it very much. I probably will never leave their CPUs mainly cause I have grown up with them, and I brand loyal. And I can't wait for my next upgrade, and as long as AMD is freely available in SA, I shall continue using them.

One other thing, I know its a long shot but could you make a CPU that kicks Intels ASS I like to put that in one of my Intel Fanboys ass, cause he just annoys me somedays. Even thought my accient system kick his ass all day long.
 
I don't really have a negative perception of AMD products, but I have always used Intel products in my PC (and laptops for that matter). A few years ago, I think there was a perception that Intel was better, but I think this has changed, though not enough to sway me to buy AMS chipsets. I didn't realise that AMD made RAM, so that shows that my perception of their products is non-existent actually. Perhaps they need to improve product awareness in SA and/or provide comparisons for consumers to make informed decisions?
 
I've had my AMD Athlon 6000+ processor for a couple of years now and it's still going strong, never had any issues with the processor itself, even though the motherboard and PSU has died in the mean time.

My biggest problem with AMD has always been the graphics card drivers. Finding the right drivers for your graphics card, especially on a laptop is a huge pain. I really wish they could make that easier, but it seems they like to push the responsibility down to the laptop manufacturers who don't really give a damn about updated drivers for older machines.
 
I have been using AMD Graphics cards for a long time now.

My first card was a ATI radeon 9250 AGP 256mb card. It was one of the best for a couple of years.
I have about 2 years ago bought a ATI radeon 5750 1Gig DDR5 card and have not been looking back since. (I stay away from Geforce/Nvidia)

I heard that running the new AMD processors with build in GPU will increase graphics performance when running that with my 5750 Card so my new pc that should be finished by December(waiting for bonus) will run an AMD motherboard and CPU. (amd ftw +1)

Now, don't you think a pair of matching DDR3 8Gig Ram slots will look rather fancy in an all AMD box?:D
 
I used to be a real AMD fan (not a CPU cooler ;)). My first was an AMD 333MHz, and it was the way to go for gaming.

Lately, I've been sticking with Intel, but when I put together my next gaming rig (probably next year), I will definitely be considering AMD as my next CPU. When it comes to GPUs, I find AMD and Nvidia like to play a game of leap frog, so I usually go with whoever is in the lead at the time of purchase. I have been very happy with my ATI cards in the past, however I haven't had one since AMD bought them out, so I can't really say if they've solved the issue with the drivers being lagging behind...
 
I remember my old laptop had an AMD in it and although the laptop was slightly aged (was like 2 years old) it still ran games nice n smooth.. I remember playin crysis 2 on it and I also tested it on bf3 but could sadly only run it on very low graphics.. The AMD have me some good times:D

For some reason or the other amd has quietly faded into the background for me over the years. Maybe it's because I have been doing in place upgrades and not replaced my rig in its entirety.

I've also found that Intel is a lot more visible from an in store advertising perspective a day amd is not.

Interesting reading the other comments here - must go have a look at amd again.
 
I've been an AMD junkie all my life.

Currently I'm running an AMD Phenom II X4 810, and although not quite as powerful as the Core 2's out there, I've run it almost 24/7 since early 2009 without any glitches or problems. My PC before that was quite old, but the AMD Duron 800 was one of the best processors for its time I've ever seen. It beat out Pentium IV 2.4GHz processors in terms of some games that I had.

All in all, just keep the value for money segment going.
 
Well, I've always heard people say that in terms of AMD products' performance, you can get better bang for your buck elsewhere. Been using an AMD GPU for a year now, though, and I honestly think I'll go AMD again next time I upgrade the GPU.

Currently looking at building a new PC, though, and I think an AMD CPU is entirely off the table. People tell me that for the same price you get a lot less performance than similarly priced Intel CPUs.
 
i actually just recently set up a PC and went AMD, cant say i am an AMD junkie, but bought myself an AMD CPU (FX 4100) as well as an AMD radeon graphics card. now initially i bought it since it was much nicer for my budget than an intel of similar specs, but im loving it! performs so much better than i expected. actually really liking the setup that i have now. i have officially been putting AMD stickers all over my tower now :)
 
well 4870 and now 6870 were both bang for the buck cards at those specific times when a gpu upgrade was required for myself and there was no regrets on my side. solid cards
 
I don't think I have ever used an AMD product and can thus not comment but I still want to enter the comp.
