Woo! Load shedding, woo!

Our power has been out since 2pm. The last couple of times we've had load shedding it has messed up the area's substation so we land up having a blackout for hours on end after the power is supposed to be on!

yeah, us in New Redruth, Alberton too from sometime to after 6pm. Was off when I got home.
But, then I though its high time the house gets cleaned, so I said to my wife, "Woman, get you ass into gear and start with the windows, hurry up and do the walls too. oh and when is dinner ready?!"

At first, I didnt see a thing....later I thought I heard something, but by 9pm I was able to open my one eye slightly, but the dr said to stay calm and be still, its serious.....

hehhhee, ja ja, kak old (reverse) joke but its Firday and I am at work already...

Yup it looks like shedding is scheduled for the weekend, so time to charge the laptop and get a few shows to watch onto usb sticks!

blaaislaai Check this email I got from sharenet...
"To ensure getting your load shedding alerts as soon as possible you MUST add [email protected] to your contacts list. Email providers such as Gmail will throttle back delivery of mass emails if the sender does not appear in your Gmail contact lists for example. This can add 20-40 minutes delay to your alerts. To further ensure you do not miss important email alerts, you must also add [email protected] to your SAFE SENDERS list to prevent our alerts going to your SPAM folder. If you are using a corporate (company) email you may have difficulty with our alerts getting tagged as SPAM. This means you need to get your IT division to whitelist [email protected] which they may be reluctant to do. Also, some of you may not get company email at home meaning you will not get load-shedding alerts over the weekend. In this case, we suggest you sign up for a Gmail (or other free email) account, even if its just for load-shedding alerts."

mk786 thanks man, I actually got the same 1min ago. It's probably why my emails are so delayed, hopefully it goes better now :)

Also...add the address to your gmail contacts.

Gmail afaik will blindly assume that any address in your contacts is not subject to SPAM filtering.

Well, just got some awesome news that our area won't be hit by load-shedding again. :) The metering company / electricity supplier made some agreement with Eskom to not hit the area with load-shedding ever again. Something to do with them turning geysers on and off, albeit remotely and automagically. Doesn't really apply to me though and I've got a solar geyser, but we DID recently install air conditioning and have used it quite extensively due to the heat in Feb...

o_O Thats a ripple system...quite a few areas have them (the apartheid era ones anyway) and they definitely get load-shed. Surprised that got your supplier a "deal" as Eskom is quite happy to loadshed other areas with such systems.

Well, the official comms were sent out to all the residents in the area end of last week, so I'm not complaining! :D

Do you have one of those new fangled smart electricity meters? I know there was talk about a modern generation of ripple tech being introduced...for those I could *maybe* see an Eskom deal.

Dude, I have NO idea. It might be that the estate where we built last year had strict rules regarding that and that the builders had to comply. All I know is the electricity supplier is quite strict and have quite a bit on control over what's going on. So it might just be.

Like I said, the latest rules state that solar geysers are a must and energy saving bulbs are a minimum - LED preferred.
