World of Warcraft - General Discussion

So when IS Cataclysm supposedly hitting?

I am considering trying this game again, Alliance this time and on a new server, but just waiting on the Expansion.

Then it is just a matter of finding a truly friendly and mature guild - real ones are SO rare. The last time I played I went into a fit of rage which ended in me deleting all my 80's. I swore to never play again.

Well that was ages ago, so I may try again. Maybe this time I will stay the hell away from serious raiding guilds - SO many dicks in those.

Supposedly sometime this year, but considering that it is Blizzard, you won't get an exact date until the expansion is finished.

I am somewhat in two minds about Cataclysm. There is a lot of new things coming out that's nice, like flying in EK and Kalmdor and the Worgen, but I do dislike some of the changes. I liked Ashenvale, and now it's going to the Horde. At least it looks like Feralas is mostly untouched.

I'll probably level another character in the expansion, but to be honest, I hate leveling. It has taken me ages to my shaman to 65. At least it goes faster once you get to 50. Depending on how much time I get, I might be able to him 80 with her soon.

I'm stoked for Cataclysm. I find it sad that zone after zone of original content is practically empty. Makes one feel pretty lonely. Ferelas felt like a ghost zone most of the time. But Azshara...O_O

There is only 3 reasons to go to Azshara for Alliance. The one quest that sends you there, Explorer title and the Dragonscale Leatherworking trainer.

The flight point is even so close you can reach it from Ashenvale at level 20 with no problem.

They never really did anything with Azshara. I am not sure if that has changed over like 6months since I left, but I doubt it.

Like Lydon said I am keen to see the changes. I have leveled SO many characters that it will be refreshing to see some changes. Think I will go with a Worgen; not sure what class, played all roles, will decide when things happen.

Only thing that worries me still is the community. Man I loathe it sometimes. The community used to be so much better vanilla WoW. This time it should go down better since my mindset has changed a lot since then. To hell with serious raiding and their mentality! (even though I like raiding a lot). This time it is just for fun!

My WoW community experience actually hasn't been that bad regarding individuals. People aren't downright rude or anything...but everyone seems really "meh" at times. Grouping and stuff that used to be more commonplace are usually shunned in favour of solo-ing. Of course I'm talking about playing through all the vanilla content and stuff.

The community is more than fine until you hit endgame.

Once that happens people become dicks real fast like! They crap themselves at the smallest mistakes, and expecting you to have insane gear or else you're a, "NOOOB LOLOL!!1" *Kicked from group*. Lets not even consider heavy raiding mentality. Once you want to raid like say, 3-5 times a week, you will encounter the "elites"; those people piss me off no end. These "elites" have NO tolerance for anyone that is new or learning. They expect you to DPS/HEAL/TANK with the best, and god forbid if you make a mistake or ask a "noob" question. Also having to apply to these 'hardcore' guilds only to be put through hell is not what I call fun.

Seriously, the games community is fine until you hit endgame content, then it goes down the pooper fast.

That is quite true tehNihilist. Raiding seems to bring out the inner tard in even the most reserved individuals.

There is always an exception to the rule though. Find a mature guild that suits your playstyle/times and things could be really good. I had this at WotLK's launch.. But eventually, the guild split. Then every next guild i joined failed too (attitude/disbanding etc).

Now its 75% SAffers (from our guild on LBlade) and then some spot filling pugs... ("LF3M TOC10 - 5500GS ONLY LOLOLZ!1")

I'm currently in a casual raiding guild. There isn't any of the elitist attitude around, although it would probably take a while before getting to LK with them. We couldn't get past Marrowgar last night, including a spectacular 1 minute wipe where I'm still not sure what exactly happened, other than the tanks died really fast. Last week we managed to down him in a single try.

Even with the wipes last night, there were none of the "xxx fails" or something similar, which is nice. It's just talking what went wrong and then try to do better.

Luckily for me, I have a big gold balance, so I don't really have an issue about repairs, unlike some of the other guys. I just wish my r/l bank balance looked the same :(

So stoked for the class info Blizzard are finally releasing today! Very interested to see what they'll be doing to my Shammy.

I would love to play WoW again but I don't see myself subbing again unless u lose my job and get some sort of disability grant so that I would have enough time and money to play the game :p Right now, time is the obstacle in playing. Don't really see it worthwhile paying R150 per month unless i have oodles of time. I wish there were 3 of me and then one could work, one could play games, and one could go out jolling and travelling the world :p

WoW has been extremely streamline to cater for casual players too.

Its a double sided sword though. Hardcore players will bitch and moan about all the nerfing and acquisition of high end gear being made almost trivial, but casuals are rejoicing because you can now experience all parts of the game without spending copious hours grinding away.

That's the reason why Hard modes for the raids have been introduced. Doing the normal raids might be possible for casual players, but not so for the hard modes.

I'm a casual player myself. While I would like to have the best gear, I know that wouldn't be possible for me. But at least I will be able to see the end-game content without dedicating half of my life to WoW.

Agreed, casual FTW. Used to be pretty serious @ WotLK launch (and got the 3rd Flame Lev kill on Sylvanas before connection problems plagued our whole raid).

Casual means more time for other stuff.. Like real life :)

Same here Auntpol. Right now I am enjoying my MMO break. Getting to play a LOT of great titles I would have missed if I was entrenched in an MMO.

Oh and personally I miss attument quests. I felt it helped to see who was dedicated, and who was there just for "EPIXXLOLZ!!1". I am all for people having access, but I feel a large reason why the community has become so overly elitist and aggressive endgame is because of the removal of attunment quests. They are constantly on the defensive assuming all new players are the kinds of people I suggested to earlier in this paragraph. I guess it is also a double-edged sword, but I liked them, it showed dedication largely if you did them. Maybe they should have attunements for Hard Modes?

Quite true about trying other titles whilst not playing an MMO. I mean, I'm playing Civilization IV only now for the first time as I've literally been playing MMO's since 2004 :D

The attunement quests were also fun for the most part, though finding groups for the BRD part of the Ony chain was a severe pain in the ass at times. The Black Morass event for Kara attunement was also a beast pre-nerf, come to think of it. But at the end of the day, you ended up with a nice shiny key that you'd worked for, and felt some sort of accomplishment for having done it.
