wug

yeh it is very interesting and i wouldnt mind getting involved already downloaded the google earth file and my area is very good :D

the great thing about wug it is a once off fee! and you on the wan! Man! the only bad thing is that if it is storming outside your signal and speed whould go down

It's a bit of a pain to dl google earth now and then find my long. and lat. Maybe another time methinks.

Tons of content

always new users

It just speeds up the process if you have you co-ords.....need to know where u are going to connect to(nod)

Yes there is dc++ servers On Jawug ant Pta wug mainly use torrents.
best is to go to wug.za.net and join the irc and chat with guys that knows what going on(admins)

What's the cost of setting up a wug? How do I know if i'm in range of a wug antenna in my area? I was talking to my buddy about the wug here in Cape Town and he knows a few people who use it. Sounds like a great permanent lan.

check op www.ctwug.za.net and speak to the CT okes on IRC, you probably live in an area that is already covered.

Complete and total failure of them in East London

It's not "them" the wugs isn't a company, it's normal people building community wifi networks. It takes two people linking to each other to start a wug, need someone to take initiative not sit and wait for someone else to bring you coverage.

weeeeeeee, 562 users connected to PTAWUG :)

the network is growing nicely, users pitching in, creating new links, doing upgrades on existing highsites and installing new ones - real community networking, by the users for the users.

with the current R/$ rate the standard kit prices from miro and scoop should drop next month, so it will be even cheaper to buy kit to connect with.

the whole of pretoria is covered, even Pretoria West, some places better than others (there's nothing a 15m tower can't fix).
