Xbox One not backwards compatible with 360 discs, Arcade games

I haven't actually considered that possibility, I think on paper these consoles are pretty much gaming PC's, but I'm sure there's preventive measures for installing other operating systems.

I'd be quite interested to see what the hacking community would be able to achieve with this. Imagine them finding a way to get the Xbox OS onto your desktop or turning the Xbox One into a nice all in 1 Linux/XBMC solution :)

Backwards compatibility is basically dead. In future I think consoles will start doing what Nintendo did on the Wii and providing an emulation layer and a shop for their old game libraries. They figured out that those old titles were worth big money.

Not a fan of the eshop since why should we pay twice for a game we already have just to play it on a new system, but if they give the game for free if you give your serial number then I would love that.

If you already have a game why don't you have the console too? Nothing stops you dusting off your PS3/XBOX/Wii to play the old games.

Cause consoles dont last forever and one day they will stop working causing all your old games to be useless if the drive or hardrive fails.

But Nintendo's stuff doesnt seem to break at all my 13 year old Gameboy colour still works perfectly lol.

Look, I can understand disc-based games not being compatible, but arcade games? Most of those arcade games are likely going to be ported over to the new xbox. They can at least give owners of those games the games for free.

I agree with this. I remember they did do some porting for the original xbox to the 360 for discs. You had to download a small patch and the game would work. But to be honest did it once and didn't bother again since the games that were made for the 360 were so much better.

But the arcade games, i really don't understand. If they port the game, maybe the will allow you to install it on the xbox one if you purchased it on the 360? It could be they just not going to port all the games? I mean if they said , yes you could, it would mean they would have to port every single game that's currently on arcade? So its possible the few games that get ported you will still be able to play.
