This thread got very dicey in a short space of time. I come here to mock the Xbone and instead get greeted with cannot-unsee-images.

Haha, Ditto! This thread started off as a critique of a dicey piece of hardware, but rapidly slid into being dicey all on its own! :D

Okay, let's get back on the rail :

PS4 > Xbone

while PS4 > Xbone:
purchase = PS4

Each has it merits though. Multimedia, xbox wins. Gaming, PS4.

Until Sony bring out a firmware update, they are both kings of their respective fields.

Look when I bought my ps3 it was to play games on, the multimedia functions where just the gravy though but that is just my opinion.

Personally I wouldn't buy a console to watch DVDs with, just like I won't buy a Range rover sport to race round Kyalami on a track day.

No one is buying the Xbox purely to watch DVD's on though. It has the capabilities of playing next gen games perfectly well. It does however beat the PS4 in multimedia capabilities.

But overall if you want a console with more multimedia features, for a HT, then Xbone would be better. If you purely want the gaming aspect, then PS4 is better.

That was my point, if I'm buying a console then it's for gaming not the multimedia stuff that my DVD player already does. I don't get the point of getting a purpose built machine to do the stuff I didn't buy it for, the multimedia fluff which is just that, fluff

I use my PS3 for watching movies. Hooked up to the home theater via optical audio, so it does that well. To me, it is an important feature. I know people that bought a PS3 over an Xbox purely because of BluRay playback

But there are some people who are looking for a device that will allow them to play games, watch youtube videos, movies, listen to music and all those features on their TV. Obviously gaming is the main reason to buy a console, but if multimedia features appeal to you, then perhaps the Xbox is the better choice, it'll still run all your games.
