The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has defined the display industry’s first fully-open standard specifying HDR quality.
The quality standard includes luminance, colour gamut, bit depth, and rise time, through the release of a test specification.
The VESA High-Performance Monitor and Display Compliance Test Specification (DisplayHDR) initially applies to laptop displays and desktop monitors.
DisplayHDR establishes three levels of HDR system performance to facilitate the adoption of HDR.
VESA developed the DisplayHDR specification with input of over 20 member companies.
These include display, graphics card, CPU, panel, display driver, and component manufacturers.
DisplayHDR v1.0 focuses on LCD displays, with future releases set to address OLED screens.
