Oakley designs its first-ever eyewear for pro gamers

31 May 2022

According to The Esports Observer, North American eyewear designer Oakley has announced its partnership with esports organization Envy Gaming.

Envy Gaming merged with OpTic last year and Oakley will become a jersey sponsor for both the OpTic Halo and Valorant teams, as well as OpTic Texas, which participates in the Call of Duty League.

As part of the multi-year sponsorship agreement, all OpTic and Envy teams will exclusively wear Oakley eyewear during competitive play and at LAN events.

Oakley is a well-known sporting brand with its most notable sponsorship being in cycling and MotoGP.

This partnership with Envy Gaming is a clear sign that Oakley has now turned its sights on the fast-growing esports industry.

Oakley recently launched a glasses collection designed specifically for gamers called NXTLVL, which features Prizm gaming lenses.

“The world of esports is continuing to grow and it’s key that we continue to level up our commitment to the world of gaming,” said Oakley head of global marketing Corey Hill.

“New athletes are showing up in the esports scene every day and we pride ourselves in making sure we provide advanced eyewear for gamers of every level,” he added.

Hill also stated that “teaming up with a partner like Envy Gaming allows Oakley to reach talent and build on our offerings in the space”.

It has been speculated that this partnership strategy by Oakley will help them approach the market group of 18-to-35-year-old gamers, who are the ones most interested in the world of esports.
