The group of cheaters in Destiny 2 who have been engaged in litigation with Bungie have agreed to pay the gaming company $13.5 million (R216 million) in damages.
This settlement by the cheat company Elite BossTech and its associates means that they now legally recognise their actions violated Destiny 2’s terms of service.
Notable Bungie has dropped several of its other claims thanks to the agreement, as reported by TorrentFreak.
The $13.5 million sum was calculated based on each instance of the term-breaking software used, with 6,765 cases and a penalty of $2,000 for each.
Along with the payment, Elite BossTech has agreed to a permanent injunction against the creation of any similar software in the future.
“This permanent injunction is binding against Defendants worldwide, without regard to the territorial scope of the specific intellectual property rights asserted in the Complaint and may be enforced in any court of competent jurisdiction wherever Defendants or their assets may be found,” the settlement said.
While Bungie has indicated that the cheat software created by Elite BossTech cost them exorbitant amounts of money, and this was the reason for the lawsuit, it will be interesting to see what effect this has on the gaming community.
