Although the hunting genre in video games has proven over the years to be decidedly lame, a brief glimpse of some screen shots of ‘The Hunter’ were enough to grab our attention and get us downloading the 400MB free beta.
The Hunter is being created by Avalanche Studios, the team behind just Cause. The game is promising to be the most realistic hunting simulator yet released. The premise is fairly basic, offering open ended free form gameplay set on an island populated with various varieties of buck.
Various online sources report that the in game presentation is nothing short of top notch, and from the screen shots we have seen we can believe it.
Expect a variety of weapons, camouflage, scent sprays and various other uber dorky hunting paraphernalia. To try the Beta out for yourself, sign up on the official website and download the 400MB install file.
We are not sure just how much fun shuffling through the woods shooting at defenseless and unaware animals will be in video game format, but as usual, we are willing to give it a go. Watch this space for a more comprehensive report on the Beta experience.
