Red Faction: Guerilla is the third title in the Red Faction franchise. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game are scheduled for local release within the next two weeks. Published by THQ and developed by Volition, Guerilla will move from the first-person view point utilized in the previous games to a third person gameplay angle.
Guerilla takes place on Mars once again, 50 years after the events which occurred in the first Red Faction. Players take on the role of Alec Mason, a former miner who rebels against the Earth Defense Force (EDF). The once noble EDF has turned sour, kidnapping people and forcing them to work in labor camps for their own profit.
The focus of much of the action in Red Faction: Guerilla will be on using the environment as a weapon. This will often involve destroying buildings and altering landscapes. Players will also be able to use traditional weapons such as guns, and will be able to occupy over 30 vehicles, including a massive walking construction mech.
Buildings in Guerilla have all been designed using CAD design programs, and all of them possess their own unique and realistic structural integrity. Players will literally be able to reduce all buildings to rubble in a variety of different ways.
The multiplayer mode is one of Guerilla’s key elements. Players will be able to unlock different multiplayer characters, and participate in six different online multiplayer modes. The Beta version of the multiplayer includes a gameplay type which is reminiscent of regular capture the flag type gameplay with the exception that players must manipulate the destructible environment in order to capture specific locations.
