A few months ago we reported that Crytek, the developers behind the smash hit Crysis, had been working on the CryEngine 3.
A demonstration video was released, showing off the new engine. Many gamers commented that the new engine shows little, if any, noticeable graphical improvement over the previous engine, leading many to believe that the CryEngine 3 is more of a multiplatform compatible port of the previous engine than something that will push the limits of in-game visuals.
While at first it seemed as though Crytek was primarily concerned with developing the engine in order to license it out to other developers, EA has revealed today that Crysis 2 is currently being developed.
Unfortunately EA did not reveal any other details regarding the game, and we have no idea when it is being planned for release or how far along it is in its development schedule.
We do know however that the game is being developed for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.
“This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on the CryEngine 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event.” stated Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli
The fact that the game will also be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360 is an indication that it should be more compatible with less than high-end PCs than Crysis was when it is was released.
