PC and general technology retailer, Incredible Connection (IC), has signed a sponsorship deal with Mind Sports SouthAfrica (MSSA).
While MSSA is South Africa’s officially recognized custodian of gaming, with full certification from SASCOC, it is also immensely unpopular with many competitive gamers due to past conflicts.
Incredible connection posted an official statement in its blog.
“As the headline sponsor we will be looking at growing competitive gaming at school, university, provincial and national level. It is through sponsorships like this that gaming will be able to achieve new heights both locally, and internationally.”
The IC blog goes on to say “we are hoping to become the portal that pushes more gamers into the gaming scene. Getting more players, more teams and more people actually playing and competing online. Making use of all Incredible Connection stores, we want to start funnelling people that buy games to the respective online gaming portals. We want to show the 500 000 ADSL consumers in South Africa that there is this whole other world that they can be involved in. We are hoping to enlarge the existing ADSL user base as well as getting more of the ADSL enabled, actually playing online and playing against you the gamer!”
While MSSA and IC are two organizations that are not particularly popular amongst competitive gamers and hardware enthusiasts, it is refreshing to see a local company investing resources into gaming in SA.
IC has recently hired competative gamer Trevor “qu1k_sh0t” Henry as its “Gaming coordinator”, a sign that the company sees potential and is willing to promote gaming in SA.
