Modern Warfare 2 Prestige edition pricing revealed

15 July 2009

After Infinity Ward revealed that it would be releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in a ‘Prestige’ edition, many gamers wondered which price point it would sell at.

Last night it was announced that the box set, which includes the game, art book and night vision goggles will retail for $149 (R1192). The night vision goggles are fully functional and feature two modes as well as Modern Warfare 2 branding.

In addition to the special casing that has come to be expected in box sets, the Prestige edition will also carry a bonus copy of the original Call of Duty. This is especially good news for PSN and Xbox Live users because it will also feature full online multiplayer capabilities.

There has been no official announcement regarding whether the Prestige edition will become available at the same time as the game release. Modern Warfare 2 is set to hit the shelves worldwide on November 10, in anticipation of the Christmas rush.

With Take2 delaying Bioshock 2’s release date to 2010 in order to maximise the game’s selling potential, i.e. not have to compete with Modern Warfare 2, gamers may find the Prestige edition slightly more affordable come the end of the year.

That being said, there is no doubt that Modern Warfare 2 is on of the most anticipated games of the year, which will make the Prestige edition one hot ticket for the festive season.

A Megarom representative could not confirm for definite whether or not the Prestige Pack would be coming to SA, but promised us an answer by the end of the week.

Stay tuned for local availability and pricing details.
