Portal for iPhone?

17 July 2009

Rumours are currently circulating that Valve’s critically acclaimed puzzle solvfer, Portal, which was released on 2007, is being ported onto the iPhone by a number of unnamed coders.

A video was recently posted on YouTube detailing Portal being played on an iPhone. The user opens the application and begins playing by using an orange portal. In game movement is performed by sliding the fingers across the bottom of the screen and tapping when selecting an object, or in this case the companion cube.

Currently no one can verify that this video is actually real and not a clever trick whereby in game Xbox360 footage is applied to the screen. Nonetheless, the physics of the iPhone port seem realistic in the video and the footage appears to be legitimate.

Although Valve has not confirmed the existence of Portal for the iPhone it is known for embracing third party generated content in the past, making a Portal iPhone app entirely possible.

Portal gathered a considerable amount of popularity when it was bundled as part of the Orange Box for Xbox360 and later PS3. The PC version is downloadable from STEAM and was released as a standalone version in early 2008.
