Gamasutra has revealed that The Sims 3 has taken top honours for PC sales in June by shifting 820 000 retail units in the US alone.
In the same period the game outsold Xbox360’s Protoype, which was the best selling console game for the month of June, by almost double. This also makes it one of the top sellers of the year thus far.
To date the Sims franchise, initially headed and developed by Will Wright for EA, has sold over 100 million units worldwide and boast an impressive back catalogue of expansion packs across each version.
In addition, the franchise claimed the top three positions for June with The Sims 3 Collectors Edition and the Sims 2 Double Deluxe.
Blizzard also made considerable representation through the World of Warcraft series and the StarCraft Battle Chest.
The top selling PC games at retail in the USA for the month of June were:
1) The Sims 3
2) The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition
3) The Sims2 2 Double Deluxe
4) World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
5) World of Warcraft Battle Chest
6) Spore: Galactic Adventures
