A few weeks ago Activision announced that Modern Warfare 2 would be retailing for £54.99 (R714) in the UK. The price indicated puts the game at around £5 more expensive than most new console games, and the outcry which followed resonated across internet forums for days.
Sensationalist and unfounded headlines were common, with the gaming media capitalizing on the minor price increase and many journalists warning of the impending ‘videogame price hike’ that was to follow which would see all new games seeing a dramatic price increase.
Now that the dust has settled and the rumors have subsided, it has become apparent that there is no sign of a local price increase. Megarom has issued a press statement detailing the pricing for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PC) – R399.00
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) – R699.00
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) – R699.00
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Mobilisation (NDS) R399.00
These prices are in-line with the current local videogame standard.
Last week Kalahari published its pricing on the Prestige Edition, putting the package at R2299.95 which is significantly higher than the US price tag of $149 (R1192).
Megarom has announced that the RRP for the Prestige Edition in SA will be R1,899.00, and not the R2300 price mark that was indicated by Kalahari.net last week.
Megarom added that MW2 would hit local retail shelves on November 10 alongside the game’s international release.
There will be not Prestige Edition for the PC version of MW2, and the Hardened Edition will not be available in SA on any platforms.
