July and August are traditionally very quiet months in terms of game releases. With most publishers holding back to release their big titles closer to Christmas, the middle of the year is usually a good time for gamers to catch up on early year releases that they missed, and this year is no different.
There was a noticeable slow down in July, with only a handful of interesting titles hitting retail shelves, and it would seem that August is set to be even slower.

While August shows a noticeable drop in the quantity of titles, of the games that are being released there are a number of interesting looking options. Picks of the month are Wolfenstein, followed by Ashes Cricket and Madden NFL10.
If you are not a sports fan and you aren’t excited by occult dabbling Nazi’s, then your best bet is to look over previous months as this year has seen a number of great titles released so far, including Empire: Total War which has recently been patched to address the performance issues and general instability that plagued the game at release, as well as Killzone 2, Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil 5, Dawn of War II, Halo Wars and loads more.
Next month looks set to pick up slightly with the likes of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dirt 2, King of Fighters XII, Champions Online and Aion: Tower of Eternity.
