Organized Chaos August post LAN report

OC August is being touted as the most successful OC yet. The Organised Chaos crew managed to pull off another successful event under immense pressure and amid major challenges created by the recent expansion to 840 seats (up by 20 percent).

The crew of 9 organisers found themselves critically shorthanded at the Bellville Velodrome the morning before the event kicked off. Nine of the OC crew’s regular helpers were unable to lend their services to the event due to studying commitments, making it the most challenging event yet in terms of organisation.

Due to this, for the first time ever the opening of the registration was delayed by 20 minutes, as crew worked feverishly to lay fresh cables to newly added rows; cables that could only be custom made on the day of the LAN.

On top of this delay, as the queue grew longer the three newly acquired core network switches (valued at R40,000 each) began to fail and a frenzy ensued to find the problem and with it, an immediate solution.

Amidst all this, somehow the underpowered and overworked team managed to pull off a solid LAN for the 573 people who managed to come during this busy period of exams and fasting.

OC representative Nadim Braun said “As tough as this event was on the crew, the OC team has once more learnt many invaluable lessons from hosting the biggest, monthly LAN event in South Africa and will continue to push the envelope and strive to set the standards. Immediate steps will be to acquire more helpers and to beef up our tech support service at future events.”

Braun went on to say “But many thanks go out to the fans who continue to make OC what it is and the team is looking forward to the future events that attendees will continue to enjoy and revel at.”

The next Cape Town OC LAN will take place on 18-20 September at the Bellville Velodrome. OC is also coming to Johannesburg in November and will be taking place on the last weekend of the month at the MTN Expo Centre.
