Company patents ‘SexBox’

7 September 2009

California based integrated circuit manufacturer Silicon Xtal Corporation has filed a patent for a device called SexBox.

The SexBox has been registered as an adult themed gaming console and is “comprised of computer hardware with unique user controls”.

Siliconera spotted and republished the patent.

The console will exclusively feature adult only rated video games, and will also grant players access to interactive adult communities and massively multiplayer online games. Furthermore, players will be able to access movie rentals and “more as technology evolves”.

According to Siliconera, Silicon Xtal is no stranger to the video game industry and the Xbox 360 as well as Nvidia graphics cards wmake use of ‘SXC circuit designs’.

Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo do not allow games that earn the Adults Only (AO) classification to be released on their consoles.

AO games are however allowed to be released for PC, although regular stores do not carry them and AO games such as Indigo Prophecy: Director’s Cut are distributed exclusively online.

While Nintendo has the casual gaming market wrapped up with the Wii, and Sony and Microsoft battle it out for the core gaming market, the SexBox may yet become a force to be reckoned with as the AO console gaming market is completely untapped and most probably quite large.
