Need for Speed: Shift sells faster on PS3 than Xbox 360

27 September 2009

According to VGchartz Need for Speed: Shift sold more copies on PS3 than it did on Xbox 360 in its first week of sales.

Traditionally, multiplatform console titles have sold faster on Microsoft’s console, presumably due to the Xbox 360’s significantly larger install base. With around eight million more Xbox 360 owners than PS3 owners, it is natural to expect sales figures to favour the Xbox 360.

In its first week, EA sold 212,064 units of NFS: Shift for PS3, while only 170,802 copies of the game were sold for Xbox 360.

This has largely been accredited to the recent bump in PS3 console sales due to the introduction of the PS3 Slim as well as a PS3 price reduction. Another possible reason for the lower sales on the Xbox 360 is that owners of the console are holding out for the soon to be released Xbox 360 exclusive Forza 3.

It must also be mentioned that Halo: ODST was just released, and is likely to have secured a large portion of Xbox 360 gamer’s gaming budget.

The recently released Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3 also managed to outsell the Xbox 360 version of the game in its opening week.
