Sony: ‘Microsoft has more money than God’

8 October 2009

Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, has stated during a recent video interview that “Microsoft has more money than God”.
This was in response to questions posed regarding Sony’s place within the market and why it is the top risk taker in the gaming manufacturer community.

Tretton added that Sony is forced to take more risks than Nintendo, which is the current industry leader, because the company knows its strength and is aware of how to use them. He added that they know how to offer “a casual, youth oriented entertainment experience, [which is] very enjoyable after 20 years, and they make money. They print money” reports Fudzilla.

Tretton added that Sony sits somewhere in the middle of Microsoft and Nintendo because the company’s financial backing is limited. Because Microsoft has greater capital, it can wait longer to turn profit.

To combat this Sony is catering “to a more mass market audience” and is willing “to take a little bit more risk than a competitor like Nintendo”
This business strategy appears to be paying off. Since the release of the PS3 Slim Sony has climbed the charts in terms of consoles sold, beating both Microsoft and Nintendo by a considerable margin in September.
