Developers Harmonix have announced that Rock Band will be ported to the iPhone and the iPod Touch “very soon” with initial details regarding the port’s tap based interface being released.
The game will allow up to four players to ‘tap-jam’ guitar, bass, vocals and drums via Bluetooth and features a tour mode where players move from city to city, playing gigs and slowly growing in stature. There is also a quick play mode which allows players to simply jump in and start jamming.
There are some drawbacks however. Harmonix has chosen not to include an Avatar creator, and cash will not be earned to purchase new characters, clothes or guitars. The vocal option will also function using the same tap based interface as the guitars, drums and bass.
Inititially Rock Band for the iPhone and iPod Touch will feature twenty tracks, although players will be able to download additional songs at a later stage.

South African users will have access to the game through the Apple app store. No official announcement regarding cost or release date has yet been made.
