In an unexpected turn of events, a petition has been spotted by Pantheon Gaming lobbying for an AGASA television show. A segment of the local competitive gaming community want to watch a show, or alternatively an entire TV channel dedicated to broadcasting competitive AGASA matches.
The petition appears as follows:
“To: Broadcasting companies and sponsors
This is a petition for a TV-channel or show dedicated to AGASA matches.
We want our own local show\channel that broadcasts AGASA premier and school league matches.
It is an excellent idea and we want to show the sponsors just how much interest South Africa has in gaming. We are growing very fast competitively and we shout out for a channel!
Please guys, sign and support us 🙂

Competitive gaming television channels are nothing new, and in countries such as South Korea, where games such as StarCraft enjoy a massive mainstream following, it is not unusual to have many competing channels that cater solely for competitive gaming.
Unfortunately in South Africa, competitive gaming does not share the same high profile status as it does in some other countries, a fact which will make a competitive gaming channel a difficult proposition to sell to investors.
It is doubtful that a competitive gaming channel will have a strong enough viewership to make a TV show viable.
At the time of publishing, the petition had accrued 58 signatures.
