Dead Space 2 due for 2010 release?

2 November 2009

Although officially unannounced, it appears that EA is planning to deliver a sequel to survival horror third person shooter Dead Space in 2010.

So far news agency Reuters has reported that the game will be released next year, although it has not officially quoted EA regarding this.

In late September a job listing on LinkedIn revealed that “”The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place,” reads the listing, which added that the Dead Space 2 team will have “complete autonomy and creative control” in its decisions on the game. According to Shacknews the LinkedIn post was subsequently removed.

Despite generally positive reviews, Dead Space and Dead Space Extraction have yielded relatively poor sales numbers for EA. Nonetheless EA CEO John Riccitiello has previously referred to the franchise as a “long term big winner for us”.

A recent study by market research group NPD showed that survival horror titles such as Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead are some of the most popular among gamers. EA may be hoping to better take advantage of this market with Dead Space 2.
