An official Capcom blog post announced that the extra content featured in the upcoming Japanese release of ‘Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition’ will be available in North America and Europe as downloadable content (DLC) for the Xbox 360 and the PS3.
“You will not be asked to purchase a new copy of the game just to get at the new stuff,” the announcement says, “just make sure to hold on to your RE5 disc and you’ll be ready to roll in Spring 2010.”
Although expected pricing levels have not yet been confirmed the post says the DLC will include “some other things we haven’t told you about yet,” and suggests gamers should “Keep that in mind when thinking about selling RE5 back or handing it off to a friend.”
The method of distribution to North American and European territories was voted upon by franchise fans, 1500 of which voted for DLC. Only 909 voted for physical packaging.
Because this update will be released as DLC there may be a strong possibility that South African gamers will be able to enjoy whatever the Alternative Edition will add to the Resident Evil franchise.
Due to Xbox Live content vetting laws however there is an equally strong chance that this content will not be available to South African Live users.
