UK game sales charts

23 November 2009

It comes as no surprise that Modern Warfare 2 (MW2) was the top selling game in the UK last week. The game has famously been declared the largest entertainment media launch ever, and has already surpassed 10-million units sold worldwide.

It had an extremely strong launch week, and its second week sales declined by 86%. This is not to say that it experienced poor week 2 sales, but it gives us an idea of how strong its launch week was.

According to GFK sales data published by Gamasutra, MW2 for Xbox 360 was followed by the just launched Assassin’s Creed 2 on Xbox 360 which managed to beat MW2 on PS3. It is well publicized that over half of all MW2 unit sales have been on Xbox 360.

The New Super Mario Bros for Wii also debuted high at fourth place, but not quite as high as some may have expected given that the Wii has such a large install base.
