Next-gen is around the corner, and building up to the big reveal of the next Xbox, what can you expect to be playing on your new consoles?

Battlefield 4

The news of Battlefield 4 originally appeared through a pre-order incentive for Medal of Honor: Warfighter, which gave adopters an early beta access to the next BF game, and EA has said that the next BF game will arrive on next-gen consoles.

The sequel will once again be set in “present times” (BF3 took place in the very near 2014), and will focus on modern warfare.

The Battlefield 4 release date is expected to fall in the latter half of 2013.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

It was first revealed that Assassin’s Creed IV will hit current-gen consoles, and then Ubisoft came out saying that it will also be debuting on PS4 and other next-gen platforms.

You’ll play as Edward Kenway, father of Haytham Kenway, and grandfather of Connor from Assassin’s Creed 3. Edward is a young British man who falls from the Royale Navy and into piracy, leading himself into the war between the Assassins and Templars.

The game takes place at the dawn of the 18^th Century during the Golden Age of Pirates, and features famous sea-dwellers, such as Blackbeard and Charles Vane.

The game features more than 50 navigable locations (3 main locations – Kingston, Nassau and Havana), including underwater exploration, and new weaponry from the game’s era.

Watch Dogs

Watch Dogs is a dark third-person shooter which gives gamers a frightening glimpse of the near future, jumping into the shoes of a protagonist named Aiden Pearce.

With the help of his smartphone, will use his ability to hack into Chicago’s central operating system (ctOS) and control almost every element of the city.

Previously leaked promo material for Watch Dogs suggested that the game will be released in the 2013 holiday season. This lines up with the holiday 2013 PS4 launch date pegged by Sony. We expect that a Watch Dogs for Xbox 720 announcement will happen shortly after Microsoft’s upcoming event.

Thief

Thief 4 was announced back in 2009, and disappeared into the shadows, but has recently revealed itself on the April cover of Game Informer.

Thief 4 will simply be called “Thief”, and will come to PC, PS4 and other next-gen platforms in 2014.

In terms of gameplay details, series hero Garrett will be the playable protagonist, while the game takes an even greater emphasis on sneaking and stealth, as enemy AI is said to be incredibly aware and reactive of the game’s environments.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is already confirmed for “all high-end platforms”, so basically PC, PS4 and Xbox 360.

The game world itself is said to be 30 times larger than that in Witcher 2; due to this CD Projekt Red has a fast-travel system in place.

The main narrative accounts for around 50 hours of gameplay in one playthrough, and the additional stories add another 50 hours of role playing, giving around 100 hours of total gaming time.
