Nintendo has been found guilty by a New York federal jury following a patent infringement claim on the 3DS from a former Sony employee and inventor.
The inventor, Seijiro Tomita, originally sued Nintendo in 2011, claming that he owned the patent to glasses-free 3D technology, which Nintendo used in its 3DS handheld.
Tomita’s lawyer said that Tomita showed the prototype of his technology to Nintendo back in 2003, and some of the people he showed it to went on to be part of the 3DS design team.
“He actually felt betrayed and hurt that they were using his technology,” said his lawyer.
Nintendo originally denied the allegations, but have now been ordered to pay $30.2 million in damages to Tomita.
