15 July 2013

Review aggregator site, Metacritic, has released a list detailing the top 25 Xbox 360 games of 2013 as of 1 July 2013.

The list includes DLC expansions and Xbox Live Arcade games, which rank highly among the triple-A mainstream releases.

1. BioShock Infinite – 93%

Anyone who has played Bioshock Infinite can say that the game is arguably the best of the year (so far).

Irrational Games delivered an exciting new experience in the Bioshock universe, but kept intact all the things that helped gamers fall in love with the series.

The shooting is tight, the Vigor mechanics made combat interesting, the visuals were breath-taking, and most of all, the story  managed to surprise, please and get gamers brains running on overdrive.

2. Bit.Trip Presents…Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien – 87%

The retro-inspired platformer was more than an homage to the old-school era of gaming, but also impressed a lot of gamers and critics with its tight controls, catchy music and quirky levels.

The power-ups and visual flair of the game make the game a full sensory experience and Runner 2 is a great departure from the dark and gritty shooters of today’s market.

3. Pinball FX 2: Star Wars Pinball – 87%

Zen Studios always delivers on the pinball front, and they did once again on Star Wars pinball.

Three tables, all with different aspects of gameplay and a variety of characters from the Star Wars universe, will delight the army of Star Wars fans.

The highlights though is obviously the pinball itself, and Zen Studios knows how to capture the physics, sounds and nostalgia of arcade pinball.

4. Borderlands 2: Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep – 87%

Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep was touted as the biggest add-on content in Borderlands history, and Gearbox weren’t kidding.

The expansion pack added around 10 hours of new enemies, locations and over-the-top humour, which made it a joy to return to Pandora, albeit with a fantasy-infused theme.

5. Tomb Raider 86

Tomb Raider’s reboot this year marked a high point for the series which has undergone some tough times in recent years.

Square Enix did a phenomenal job at reinventing the female treasure hunter, to make her a more relatable and somewhat likeable heroin.

The game may have taken some tips from Uncharted, but its put itself into a frame of its own.
