Battlefield 1943 download only

8 February 2009

Along with Battlefield: Bad Company 2, EA has announced that Battlefield 1943 is officially on its way.

The developers behind the popular Battlefield series, DICE, have confirmed that they will be releasing a completely updated and revamped WWII Battlefield game.

From what we can gather, Battlefield 1943 will be a completely refurbished standalone update to Battlefield 1942.

The developers have claimed that they are going to maintain the classic game play elements that made battlefield 1942 so popular, but deliver them using the Frostbite engine that powered Battlefield: Bad Company.

The game will apparently only be available as a download, and will appear on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.
There will be no unlocks, and players will have access to all the different classes and weapons from the outset. The estimated download size is 350mb, and the game should be released around June.

At present, there are only three maps and one gameplay mode (conquest) planned with a maximum 12 players a side. If Battlefield 1943 enjoys a successful launch, it is likely that we will see it expanded with additional maps.
