DiRT 2 coming September

22 February 2009

At last weeks’ Gamers Day press event, Codemasters announced that the sequel to the critically acclaimed DiRT will be arriving in September this year.

Imaginatively titled DiRT 2, the upcoming racing title will make use of the latest version of the EGO engine. If Codemasters are to live up to their “target screenshots”, then the EGO engine still has a way to go. The EGO engine has been most commonly used in racing titles such as the original DiRT and GRID, but will also be powering the upcoming “Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising”.

We are sure that DiRT 2 will look amazing; after all, any improvement on the visuals in DiRT will be impressive. However, we are getting a little tired of these “target screenshots”, commonly referred to as “Bullshots”.

DiRT 2 will feature a World Tour mode which will take players to various locations around the world, including Japan, Malaysia, Baja and Croatia. Codemasters has also promised a properly implemented multiplayer element this time around.

DiRT 2 is planned for a broad multiplatform release, featuring on the PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, as well as the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.
