Shacknews reports that Blizzard’s former WoW director spoke at GDC (Game Developers Conference) in San Francisco yesterday, revealing some interesting statistical tidbits regarding the world’s most popular MMO.
– There are around 7650 currently active quests in World of Warcraft
– Between 30 June 2007 and 5 March 2009, some 8,570,222,436 quests were completed WoW.
– A daily average of 16,641,209 quests are completed in WoW
Kaplan revealed that at launch, Blizzard aimed to provide 600 unique quests, the figure required in order to compete with Everquest’s estimated 1200. As WoW players will know, the game posses enough quests to keep players busy, but is also designed in such a way that players will run out of quests from time to time. This was a strategic design choice, and Kaplan reveals that it was a contentious issue within the studio.
