The third game in the Red Faction franchise has officially been given a release date. The first Red Faction was released for the Playstation 2 and PC in 2001. Developed by Volition, the game was set on Mars sometime in the 22nd century.
The premier feature of the game was the ability to drastically alter terrain using the “Geo-Mod” technology.
The first sequel was released a year later, and now players can expect Red Faction: Guerilla to land on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on June 9.
Other interesting tidbits have revealed that the third in the series will differ from its predecessors in that it will not follow a straight forward linear structure, but will put players in an open world, much like games such Fallout 3 and Mass Effect etc.
It has also been revealed that unlike its predecessors, Guerilla will be third-person action game as opposed to making use of the traditional first-person view point.
A demo for the game is currently scheduled to go live on PSN and Xbox Live on April 23.
