Warner Bros. Makes bid for Midway

22 May 2009

Warner Bros. Has made an asset purchase bid of $33 million for the bankrupt Midway Games reports Fudzilla.

Although this does not include the purchase of all of Midway’s assets, it will feature Mortal Kombat, which is arguably the company’s most valuable asset. Its Chicago and Seattle studios will also be included.

The bid will not however include Midway’s San Diego or Newcastle studios, the TNA wrestling franchise or the recently released Wheelman.

Despite this it is generally assumed by that Warner Bros will get the Wheelman franchise if the deal goes through. If it is not completed Midway stands to receive a $1 million break-up fee.

This comes as Warner recently announced its intentions to expand their developmental efforts.  Midway was founded in 1988 and is responsible for games like Ms. Pac-Man and Unreal Tournament 3.
