Guitar Hero 5 out on September 1

Activision has posted a release date on the official Guitar Hero 5 website revealing that the next iteration of the armchair rock and roll simulator will be arriving on September 1, translating to a local release sometime in mid September.

Eight days later Harmonix will be releasing its next iteration of the Rock Band series with The Beatles: Rock Band. 
Like World Tour, Guitar Hero 5 will allow players to play with up to four instruments simultaneously. The game will feature songs from 85 different bands.

New features include the ability to play the game using any combination of up to four instruments. So players will be able to play with 3 vocalists and a drummer, or 2 drummers and two bassists for example.

Songs confirmed for Guitar Hero 5 so far are

– Johnny Cash – “Ring of Fire”
– Santana – “No One To Depend On (Live)”
– Bob Dylan – “All Along the Watchtower”
– Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – “Runnin’ Down a Dream”
– Vampire Weekend – “A-Punk”
– The White Stripes – “Blue Orchid”
– The Rolling Stones – “Sympathy for the Devil”
– Kings of Leon – “Sex on Fire”
– Stevie Wonder – “Superstition”
