Gamasutra has reported that book publisher Tor has revealed that it will be publishing a Bioshock novel towards the end of 2009. Tor is a well respected publisher in fantasy and sci-fi circles, and has published novels by the likes of Orson Scott Card, Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind.
Tor has become known for publishing novels based on video games such as Eric Nylund and Joseph Staten’s Halo novel series which was surprisingly successful.
Apparently Gamasutra discovered a teaser page in Tor’s latest 2009 book catalogue. The note did not contain very many details, but it did confirm that the novel would be out at around the same time as the release of Bioshock 2 (Nov 3), that it would be about 400 pages long and that it would be available in hard cover as well as paperback.
An interesting feature of the teaser page was the inclusion of the name Ken Levine as the author of the Bioshock novel. It has been said that Levine was the mastermind behind the original Bioshock, however he is not involved with the sequel which is currently in production.
Gamasutra stated the credit to him as the author may be in reference to the fact that the book is based on his concepts and does not necessarily mean that he wrote the book himself.
Tor has also recently published a Dragon Age novel, written by the game’s lead designer David Gaider.
Tor will also be releasing a book based on the popular MMO EVE Online, entitled EVE: The Burning life which is also due out later this year.
