PSP2 to pack more visual punch than original Xbox?

7 July 2009

Spanish website Eurogamer.es has reportedly been handed insider information regarding the graphical specifications of the upcoming PSP 2.

The graphics processor will be based on a multicore version of the SGX534, manufactured by UK based Imagination Technologies, which was released in March 2009. The processor, codenamed ‘Hydra’ is set to include four cores and will run 133 polygons per second.

This kind of performance exceeds that of the original Xbox.

In addition the processor will have separate caches for textures and data, 8 PE ISP (Image signal processor processing elements) and will support OpenGL 2.0 and DirectX 10.
Not to be confused with the PSP GO, which is scheduled for release in October 2009, the PSP 2 is still in its development phase and has as yet not been given a release date.

In typical Sony fashion the speculation could neither be confirmed or denied.
